About us - Under the Mango Tree
Who we are
We are a small charity but with big ambitions.
Ambitions to improve the life chances of children in the rural Kambe area of Kenya.
Ambitions to share life stories and to build a greater understanding of cultures.
The fledgling school began in 2000 with a few children gathered under a mango tree to learn. With support from a number of sources both in Kenya and overseas, the school slowly grew with the provision of buildings and qualified teachers.
In 2012, a visiting group from the UK established the Under the Mango Tree registered charity in order to provide a cohesive stream of development aid with due diligence from Trustees and the governance of a local management committee.
The school operates under a Christian ethos but there are no restrictions with respect to which children can attend. The school community is made up of Christian, Muslim or no faith children; they operate as a single school family.
